Aid shipment to the solomons after tsunami disaster
Following on the destruction and devastation that the earthquake and resulting Tsunami caused in the Solomon Islands, and in particular Gizo, Sofrana have been approached by Fonterra to see what kind of help and assistance we were able to give.
Simon Stewart at Fonterra has helped organize a shipping container of relief goods which included 2820 units of free 1 litre Anchor UHT Milk.
Warren Smith from Derek Prince ministries donated bibles and other reading material as well as PC’s and medical supplies. Max Palmer at Life Resources in Christchurch organised a huge amount of relief products from blankets to kitchen utensils. Andrea Guthrie at Turners and Growers organised a whole pallet of fruit juice from Zebra Zoo and of course the Auckland Pacific Island Community through the radio station 531pi have pulled together to donate relief items.
All donated goods have been packed in a 20’ container kindly donated by Sofrana and it will be shipped free of freight on the Magellan v110 to Honiara (ETD 1/06).
Bulk Shop and Y Sato in the Solomons, Fonterra’s customers and partners of the operation are working closely with the National Disaster Council who are very familiar with the situation.
The National Disaster Council will be advising in all aspects of the distribution. Some things will be handed over to the National Disaster Council and some things will be distributed through churches and other organisations.
